My Current Reads

As I work furiously on some deep and meaningful blog posts, I thought it would be fun to take a short break and share what I’ve been reading lately. I know this doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with blended families or stepparenting, but reading is a huge part of my life. Reading is an escape; it keeps my mind sharp and exercises my imagination, which doesn’t hurt in the parenting department.

I don’t know if you’ve visited my Instagram lately, but I’ve been trying to jump on stories more as a way to interact with followers. I want to get to know you and you to know me. Unfortunately I’m extremely awkward. I do much better behind my keyboard; it’s definitely my comfort zone. But you know that quote, life begins at the end of your comfort zone? I don’t know who said it, but I feel like it’s accurate. I plan to keep trucking along on Instagram stories even though I may scare a few of you away. I think it’s a good way to find my people. I know there are people who will find comfort and connection in my quirkiness, and that’s who I’m looking for.

For right now though I’m going to go ahead and share my current reading list from the safety of my keyboard. Where you can’t see my face, and I can reword sentences as I please. I may even continue doing a what-I’m-reading post regularly. Perhaps monthly? Let me know if that is something you would like?

Some of my most recent reads include..

Fiction:

  1. Every Breath by Nicholas Sparks – I mean, can you be a thirty-something and not have read his latest book? I think not. I love every single word he writes, but this one was one of my favorites up there with The Notebook and Two by Two. Nicholas Sparks books make great vacation reads.
  2. Home Again by Kristin Hannah – By far and away my favorite author. I have now read every title that is currently in print by her. I think they are all fantastic, however this one did not make my top five favorites of hers. It’s a tight race though as they are all so beautifully written. If you’re looking for a good novel with a strong female character, Kristin Hannah has you covered.
  3. The Man From St. Petersburg by Ken Follett – If you enjoy politics and historical fiction, this is your guy. I really enjoyed this book, but my favorites of his include The Century Trilogy and A Place Called Freedom.
  4. Netherwood by Jane Sanderson – I’m only half way through this one, and I love it so much already! Jane Sanderson is a new to me author and I’m so excited to dive in to more of her books. I’ll let you know more about what I think of this one when I finish.

Non fiction:

  1. Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis – I can’t say enough good things about these books. It took me a while to jump on the band wagon, but now that I have all I can say is, I wish I had read these sooner. They guarantee all the motivation to living life to its fullest.
  2. Finish by Jon Acuff – For anyone who is forever a starter, but never a finisher. He gives tips and tricks to following through and finishing what you start. I had so many aha moments during this book.

My to be read list includes..

What have you read lately that you love? Share your favorites with me! I linked everything above in case you’re interested in anything on my list.

Happy reading! ~Rach

  1. I love your quirkiness!! It’s one personality trait that is so endearing and people take it for granted. All my closest people are awkward, I love that about them. I’m reading Girl, Stop Apologizing now. It’s so good.

So excited for your next blog!!
